Kindergarten is meant to be a time of exploration, discovery, and learning within a comfortable, dynamic, loving, and positive environment. Our program allows the students this last foundational year to learn through doing, through adventure, and the children come out testing high in so many areas but they have fun doing it. We know it is important to parents to give their child the best opportunity to succeed academically and our program makes high-achieving academics what they should be-fun!
Our highly emphasized phonics-based reading program makes learning fun! A majority of our children come out of the class reading at a first to second grade level, but much more importantly, they emerge with a love of reading that can last a lifetime.
It is so important to learn Spanish in Kindergarten! Children have a window of opportunity to become familiar with Spanish before they realize they are learning a new language. If they get this familiarity before 6 or 7, children can rapidly accelerate their language knowledge even years later. We use Sonrisas Spanish Curriculum to immerse the children in the language. Spanish words and phrases are built into the classroom and activities as well as a weekly 45-minute formal Spanish Class where they will spend the year learning specific words and phrases with age-appropriate scope and sequence. Learning a second language has been shown to improve math abilities as well as reading, vocabulary, and comprehension in English.
In our classrooms, every day, Bible stories come to life through song, poetry, art, and dramatic play. The children also participate in daily devotions in the morning and at mealtimes, where students can offer to lead the prayers if they wish. We want the children to leave our school knowing they are uniquely created and loved by God no matter what.
Our ACT Academics© program sees parent’s delight when their children come home excited about their day of learning. Children love the unique approach to foundational academics and the process of learning is a joy. STEAM is celebrated as our Kindergarten world focuses on exploration where children make their own discoveries, hypothesize while learning about the world around them, connect the dots, problem solve, think creatively, and innovate. Our children leave our Kindergarten program having conducted their own experiments, they know how to add and subtract through a variety of approaches, problem solve, and use teamwork, critical thinking and adaption to drive their individual learning.
Kindergarten children need basic self-help skills and are ready to learn more abstract concepts and self -management skills now. Through classroom activities, group discussion, and dramatic play, your child will learn about:
While our students can think of their classroom as “home,” they are also welcome to learn in the myriad other exciting spaces at our school. Our Nature Outdoor Classrooms, gardens, themed interest area buildings, Ocean and Dinosaur and Insect Cabins, Computer Castle, Library, Kid’s Kitchen, the Discovery Gym, and Music Room allow for so many opportunities to learn academic concepts in fun, meaningful ways.
Our environment at ACT is something special and that translates into the classroom. Kindergarten students learn about the world around them through special units of study throughout the year. The classroom decorations and center spaces transform for each unit to make learning fun, exciting, and hands-on! Kindergarten units include Health and Safety, Art, Winter, Space, Geography, Ocean, and Dinosaur.
Our ever-changing themes in learning happen off-site too. Children hop onto our 65-passenger school bus with seat belts to watch concepts come to life during our many field trips, for example:
The founders built more than a school; they also built a family. Several generations have been through our iconic Cap and Gown Graduation Ceremony because each generation knows that their child will receive an exceptional level of care and education. We want Kindergarten to be a time of wonder that inspires and encourages children as they acquire new information and skills. This year of dynamic learning culminates with a graduation celebration like no other. From the entire school cheering on the students for the school’s graduation parade, to going to Thrive Church for the renowned ceremony, families will leave knowing they were a part of something special.
